Phrae

Phrae is a city, and province in north central Thailand. Primarily an agricultural centre, it isn’t high on anyone’s tourism agenda, but is worth seeing if you want to see a more authentic view of Thailand than you get in the major centres.
You won’t have cultural shows, or Elephant rides, but you will find excellent northern food, genuinely friendly locals, and a serene countryside full of surprises.
In the nearby mountains you will find little retreats and hidden country restaurants.
Aside from agriculture, the province is becoming somewhat of a centre for teak furniture, and traders from other cities travel often to Phrae to obtain a variety of furniture and other wood products.
