Bangkok

Bangkok (Krung thep) is the capital, and largest city in Thailand with well over ten million residents. Established in the late 1700s as the capital of Siam after the old capital of Ayutthaya fell to the Burmese, it grew from a small trading centre to the economic and cultural hub of what became known as The Kingdom of Thailand.

Bangkok Bargains
Sawasdee Bangkok Inn - This place is charming, simple, and inexpensive. A favourite among bargain travellers, it tries hard to give budget minded travellers the most for their money. Clean and friendly, usually catering to a young-ish crowd that frequents the Khaosan Road area. If arriving by taxi be sure to give the exact address as there are many establishments using “sawasdee, or sawadee” in their names. (570 to 1250 baht per night)
Woodlands Inn - Basic, and inexpensive. Your experience may vary depending on the weather as there is no air-con in the cheaper rooms, and no elevator either. Located close to the train station at Hualamphong, and reasonably close to shopping and entertainment areas. Good for the budget traveller. Probably not a place for a family holiday though.
